"His Majesty in the Swamp": Immersion in the imaginative dreaming of a handful of slow chords and some highly linguistic riffs which across a doomscape of several iterations spell out an empire's journey in this evil heavy metal-inspired black metal. This music is melodic without being obvious about it, using the sense of tonal expectancy found in baroque music to style heavy metal into a new dark science. Low register gutwhispers accompany riffing of rhythmic chord strumming balanced by lengthy lead riffing, and song structures pull apart and reassemble in new geometries over the course of a hypnotic and emotional listening experience. There is a clarity in the correspondence between specific tones and their context in a continental drift of harmony in which melody dictates the change in valuations. A doomy, epic take on what was once a vagrant heavy metal style, Varathron takes the listener into the murky depths of the unconscious will of stagnant humanity.
