With an unusually wry sense of melody vanishing in its own starting points, Angel Witch made a uniquely evil and oppositional sound in NWOBHM era metal that inspired others through its rejection of positivity in sound in favor of structures that continue hooks to their logical conclusion, expanding melody out of otherwise pop devices.
