Greater Manchester force has been accused of racism in this case, which has awarded the complainant a five figure sum in compensation. Others have pointed out the fact that there are many non-white officers in GM police and that Mr Singh-Bhacker has worked for a surprising number of forces, suggesting something amiss in his attitude.
It maybe that he didn't merit that promotion. Applying 12 times and being turned down for a job is only to be expected when the applicant does not possess the qualities that warrant such a promotion. This can happen to anyone.
Why did he continue to apply? He presumably planned that once he had been turned down enough times it would be his chance to make an accusation of racial bias. It was dubbed ‘racist’, simply because he didn’t get the promotion and so it got into the press. Result: such an accusation gets him the promotion through sheer threat. Works everytime. Fair? Just? Equal?
