Expansion of Stanstead Airport is Madness

In a time of increasing global climate change, environmental degradation and extinction of life across the planet, this government decides to expand yet another airport. This is utter madness. But all this is in line with the ‘mantra’ of growth, growth, growth.

In expanding this airport a large area of land is ripped out that contains wildlife habitat, woodland and heritage sites. Tarmacing over such land doesn’t help the flooding that occurs in part through water ‘run off’ from concrete and tarmac when there are no trees and plant life to absorb it.

But such runways increase quantity of planes, pollution, and people entering the country, increasing the transient population and increasing the permanent population. What ensues is the expansion of infrastructure, housing and commercial development. The knock on effects of this are endless and destructive.

The pollution caused by the expansion of Stanstead has been calculated to offset any benefits from the nation using eco light bulbs!

While there is short term economic gain, such continued growth is financial profit at the price of the destruction of a country. But this government like, the European Union, is on a March of Death. The future is certainly not going to be one of quality, as the name of the game is quantity and it seeks only to make as much profit out of as much as possible and quickly.

The people of this country are not consulted about anything in that there is no true ‘democracy’ just an oligarchy or something resembling a dictatorship and a mindless route for as much money, kudos and power as possible in the short term, oblivious to any future consequences.

Economic growth is madness perpetuated by the insane.
